June 18-22, 2023, Vivoin Abbey Inspired by the South American and Italian musical traditions, a tribute to all the great women composers of the 17th century With a unique composition centered on Austrian-born theorbo player Christina Pulhaar, world-renowned French string players and cornet, this ensemble is able to excite the world with its fresh interpretation of 17th century music with an appropriate taste of traditional music rooted in regional characteristics. The Ensemble L’Arpeggiata is an ancient music ensemble. The ensemble’s stylish albums, which range from authentic Baroque music to oral music and improvisation with jazz and other styles, are always a hit. This new work by Lalpeggiata and Christina Pluhar, “Wonder Woman,” is dedicated as a tribute to all the great female composers of the 17th century. On the other hand, it is also a tribute to talented women musicians of all ages who had to give up their careers too soon, too often hiding their talents behind their husbands. Cristina Pluhar also drew inspiration from traditional South American and Italian music, and sought out songs that tell stories about extraordinary, strong, brave, yet sad women. First and foremost is the wonderful Mexican song “La Bruja” (The Witch). This song symbolizes freedom for all women at all times and in all cultures. (Warner Music)
