Michael Balzary alias Flea is best known as the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His solo work is often experimental, instrumental, jazz or avant-garde. In recent years, Flea has been very active as a film music composer. He has participated in the soundtracks for films such as Babylon or the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
Flea is one of the most important bassists of his generation. On his solo album Honora, which he named after the woman he loved, he returns to his first musical loves, namely jazz and playing the trumpet. On the recording, he is joined by an elite group of visionaries of modern jazz: album producer and saxophonist Josh Johnson, guitarist Jeff Parker, bassist Anna Butterss and drummer Deantoni Parks. Mauro Refosco (David Byrne, Atoms for Peace) and Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes) also joined. The album contains six original songs as well as interpretations of melodies by George Clinton and Eddie Hazel, Jimmy Webb, Frank Ocean and Shey Taylor and Ann Ronell. Star guests include singers Thom Yorke from Radiohead and Nick Cave.
