Recorded live in Chicago last year, ‘Resuscitate!’ reimagines songs from Callahan’s ‘YTILAER’ with Jim White, Dustin Laurenzi, Matt Kinsey and a raft of guests.

“Songs tend to mutate after they’ve been recorded,” says Callahan. “These songs were mutating faster than usual.” The singer-songwriter released ‘YTILAER’ in 2022, and captured this performance at Chicago’s Thalia Hall a year later, desperate to document the changes. White and Kinsey played on the album but tenor sax player Laurenzi is a fresh addition adding a jazzy flex to fill out the tracks without backing vocals or electronics. And the songs benefit from extra instrumentation from Callahan’s list of friends who stepped in to help out: guembri player Joshua Abrams, harmonium player Lisa Alvarado, alto saxophonist Nick Mazzarella, pianist Nathanial Ballinger and vocalist Pascal Kerong’A.
