Description
On “McCartney II”, his de facto second – or third, if you count RAM – solo album after the end of the Beatles and many Wings records, Paul McCartney sometimes radically breaks with rock conventions and listening habits. He openly accepts the risk of downright disturbing many of his fans. And that’s what happened. However, there is also praise from many quarters for McCartney’s courage to explore sound; some of the songs on “McCartney II” are regarded as pioneering experimental pop works and extremely influential for the electronic pop of the early 1980s. “McCartney II” is a completely refreshing and in parts exciting and adventurous record, especially after all those years of formulaic Wings music. It’s a shame that the album didn’t become a double album as planned for commercial reasons. Incidentally, the unreleased songs from back then were still released in 2011 as part of “The Paul McCartney Archive” collection. “McCartney II” was Paul’s first solo album since the formation of the Wings in 1971. The highly electronic style of the album was certainly innovative, but its cozy domestic origins were reminiscent of the McCartney album from 1970. Recorded in the summer of 1979, when the future of the Wings was still uncertain, the album was made at home on Paul’s farm in Scotland. Remastered in 2011. With printed inner sleeve and booklet with the Japanese translations of the lyrics.
