Originally formed in Sweden in 1987, Sarcasm would release blistering Death Metal throughout the early and mid 90's. After a shortlived reunion in 1997, they would come back into the fold in 2015 with a new re-designed version of their lineup. Now they return with their new full-length album "Mourninghoul". "Mourninghoul" is Sarcasm's fifth album, it was recorded during six months of the last year. Mixed and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound. With the new drummer Jesper Ojala the band has recorded their most dynamic and innovative album to date, while the band keeps evolving and raises the bar a notch on each album, the old catchiness and atmosphere is still recognizable. The essence of the band is Death Metal but listening to the album closely and open-mindedly, many dimensions unfold, and indeed the album feels like a journey and explores many elements and emotions of extreme metal. And that was the intention because like the last album, "Mourninghoul" is also concept-based. It's about a two-minded ghoul and it's journey through its miserable existence on Earth and the deepest abyss, the lyrical structure is like a conversation the ghoul is having with its higher inner being with answers coming through on its journey as its universe expands, with lots of symbolism and metaphors thrown in till its final realization. Sarcasm does not write lyrics like others, while the musical side of the band is very strong, their unique lyrical style alone makes the band stand out from the rest. There is a deep meaning to their concepts that truly resonates. Take Black Metal, melodies, and Death Metal and blend it all up then you'll have "Mourninghoul". The music remains beautiful, vile, and brutal all in the same. "Mourninghoul" is a triumphantly diverse Death Metal album that brings a complete and competent sound.

Oppressor is reformed and has started playing live again! Oppressor recorded two demo’s... and their second demo, 1993’s “As Blood Flows”, got them signed in 1993. Now forty years on from the start and reaching album number fourteen (!), the titans offer forth this crushing new release “Saints Dispelled”. Master, a.k.a. the Motorhead of Death Metal, give us another viscous Death Metal offering in 2024. They have mastered what it means to produce high octane, ear drum bursting, unrelenting Death Metal once again. With a discography one can not count on two hands, they have rarely skipped a beat in producing the fast paced brutality we all so love and enjoy, and “Saints Dispelled is no exception, maybe we would rate it among their better albums (time will tell). This clearly is not the kind of album you can listen to listen to while reading a nice book and drinking some warm tea. Between the pounding drums, merciless riffing, and, of course, Speckmann’s wonderfully hideous vocals, “Saints Dispelled” does nothing short of furiously, punishing your mind. Start to finish, the album consistently splits your spine and breaks your neck with the mightiness of Master ‘s perfect idea of what old school Death Metal means. To elaborate: “Saints Dispelled” will, figuratively and literally, rip your face off, sew it back on, and rip it off again. As this is clearly a competent and highly professional act that knows what they’re doing, this is nicely displayed here with an album that has a lot to like about it, which makes this a wholehearted recommendation not only for fans of the band but all those who enjoy this ravenous style of old-school Death/Thrash metal.

MASTER – COLLECTION OF SOULS LP

- Death/Thrash Metal classic remastered! A strong Master album re-issued. After the great “On The Seventh Day God Created... Master”, Master returned in 1993 with a new effort entiled “Collection of Souls”, basically a bit more Thrash Metal in style. It is hard to find a band that started as a Death/Thrash one in a period of Thrash Metal and becomes Thrash in a period of Death Metal! Well, Master did it with this album. The tracks here, even if less Death Metal as on “On the Seventh Day God Created... Master”, are really enjoyable. The first thing you will notice is the production: a bit more clear and Thrashier. The guitars are not so tuned down anymore and the vocals are less growling. The opener “Constant Reminders” is still in old school style Death/Thrash; a song that could easily have fitted well in Master’s previous works with the fast bass drum and up tempo. Most songs that follow are Thrashier and even have a bit of punkier approach, going straigh ahead. A cool different song is the nice Thin Lizzy cover of “Jailbreak”, Master goes Hardrock. The super-fast “Silver Spoon” is once more a good piece of brutal Death/Thrash and a perfect track to end this album. “Collection of Souls” is an effort that is surely more Thrash Metal than Death Metal but with lots of enjoyable moments.
